The other morning I woke up with a very painful zit forming on my jawline. The kind that throbs underneath the skin, almost with its own heartbeat, festering, growing, begging you to touch it. To pop it.
As I drew my hands closer to inspect, I heard my mother’s voice in my head: “Don’t touch that. Leave it alone. It will heal faster that way.”
